Welcome to the Crompton Moor User Group web site.
The best place for up to date news, views and information about Crompton Moor.
Crompton Moor, near Shaw, lying between Oldham and Rochdale is an upland heath area, about 170 Acres of which is owned by Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council.
275 Acres of the moorland, including the Council owned area, is rated as a Grade A. Site of Biological Interest ( SBI ) particularly for itís habitat importance to bird and mammal species, but also for itís overall biodiversity value.
Itís proximity to the edge of the Greater Manchester Conurbation has made it a popular attraction for walkers, ramblers, bird watchers, riders and cyclists but also brings itís share of challenges which threaten the future of the moor and itís wildlife.
The Crompton Moor User Group was formed as a link to the council run project board while the Friends group sets out to help safeguard the future of this precious site in the face of these challenges and through these web pages you can find out what is happening, what kind of proposals are being made and what you can do to get involved.
